May 15, 2010 will bring the 135th running of the Preakness Stakes at Pimlico Race Course in Baltimore, Maryland. The middle jewel of the Triple Crown held every third Saturday in May. The Preakness is the second leg of the prestigious Triple Crown for top three year old thoroughbreds in America. It follows the Kentucky Derby held at Churchill Downs on May 1, 2010. The third leg of the Triple Crown will be at the Belmont Stakes on June 5, 2010.
The Preakness Stakes offers a million dollar purse to the winner and determines whether the Kentucky Derby winner has a chance at the Triple Crown. The Preakness limits the race starters to 14. No doubt some of the horses that run in the Kentucky Derby will run in the Preakness Stakes.
By tradition, three year olds run the on a 3/16th mile track. A total of
14 contenders are lining up for the 2010 Preakness Stakes. Of course, the recent Kentucky Derby winner Super
Saver and jockey Calvin Borel are both expected to be star attractions at this year's Preakness Stakes, the
second jewel in horse racing’s Triple Crown. Although he came in sixth in Kentucky, keep your eye on Derby
favorite Lookin at Lucky. Other odds-on favorites at Pimlico include Paddy O'Prado, Noble's Promise, and
Dublin, who came in third, fifth, and seventh recently on a muddy track in Louisville.
2010 Preakness post positions will be announced on Wednesday, May 12 at 5PM ET on Horse Racing Television
(HRTV) and ESPN360.com. In the U.S., all the televised action will take place from Pimlico on NBC at 5 PM ET on
Saturday, May 15, 2010 with post time approx. 6:05 PM ET. It's now time for Sammy's Preakness
predictions.
