May 19, 2012 will bring the running of the Preakness Stakes at Pimlico Race Course in Baltimore, Maryland. The middle jewel of the Triple Crown held every third Saturday in May. The Preakness is the second leg of the prestigious Triple Crown for top three year old thoroughbreds in America. It follows the Kentucky Derby held at Churchill Downs. The third leg of the Triple Crown will be at the Belmont Stakes in June.

The Preakness Stakes offers a million dollar purse to the winner and determines whether the Kentucky Derby winner has a chance at the Triple Crown. The Preakness limits the race starters to 14. No doubt some of the horses that run in the Kentucky Derby will run in the Preakness Stakes.

By tradition, three year olds run the on a 3/16th mile track. Of course, the recent Kentucky Derby winner will be star attractions at this year's Preakness Stakes, the second jewel in horse racing’s Triple Crown.
2012 Preakness post positions will be posted below. In the U.S., all the televised action will take place from Pimlico on NBC at 5 PM ET on race day, with post time approx. 6:05 PM ET. It's now time for Sammy's Preakness predictions.
