Northern Illinois +13.5  (-110) (BetMGM):
Since 2010, college football road teams coming off a home loss by four points or less are 109-55-4 ATS (66.5%) in the first five weeks of the regular season, covering the spread by an average margin of +3.5 points per game. These teams are 43-16-1 ATS (72.9%) since 2012, covering the spread by an average margin of +6.0 points per game in that span. Since 2008, road underdogs of +5.5 or more points in games with totals of 46 points or less are 422-323-22 ATS (56.6%) in weeks 1-12, covering the spread by an average of +1.73 points per game.
Nebraska starting quarterback Jeff Sims is listed as questionable for today’s game after injuring his ankle last week at Colorado. Sims was held out of practice earlier this week and offensive coordinator Marcus Satterfield stated that both Sims and Chubba Purdy are “preparing to be starters.” Nebraska’s attack has been decent this season, averaging 5.5 yards per play in road games against Minnesota and Colorado, but would not be the same without the threat of Sims running (207 yards on 24 runs). With Northern Illinois standing at 27-9-1 ATS as a road underdog, grab the points with the Huskies as my free pick winner for Saturday, September 16.
