With the Yankees 2023 post-season chances all but gone, the 27-time World Champions will now focus on finishing with a winning record and being a spoiler for other clubs. On the latter note, the Yanks begin a three game series with the Blue Jays tonight in the Bronx. The Jays are currently holding down a Wild Card spot but New York could help change that over the next three days.
The Yankees will send RHP Clarke Schmidt out in Game 1 tonight and while the 27-year-old has a 4.56 ERA overall this season (30 games) that number drops to 3.94 at Yankee Stadium (16 appearances; 15 starts). In four career games vs. the Blue Jays -- including one start this season -- Schmidt has yet to surrender a run, allowing just five hits in 8 1/3 IP with 12 strikeouts and four walks allowed.
The Yankees have won nine of Schmidt's last 13 starts going back to June 29. Take New York.
