The Arizona Cardinals will host the Baltimore Ravens on Sunday night in a nationally televised preseason game.
On the surface, Sunday night's contest between the Cardinals and Ravens appears to be just another dress rehearsal in preparation for the start of the 2022 campaign.
However, this preseason tilt has stakes even without the participation of stars such as Kyler Murray and Lamar Jackson.
The Ravens enter having won 21 straight preseason games, an NFL record. Frivolous as it might be, Baltimore has rallied around the streak, which is something Cardinals head coach Kliff Kingsbury has recognized.
"That's part of their culture," Kingsbury told Darren Urban of the Cardinals' website. "They say we're going to win these games and help it build into the regular season. I respect that approach. Obviously, their team believes. They have one of the most successful franchises in the league. We'll get their best shot."
Former Ravens wide receiver Hollywood Brown and quarterback Trace McSorley, now with the Cardinals, echoed their coach's thoughts about how the Ravens approach the streak.
Brown said, "They take it serious," while McSorely added, "You better be ready, because they're gonna bring it."
The Ravens increased the streak to 21 straight after defeating the Tennessee Titans, 23-10, last week.
Last preseason, Baltimore broke the previous streak of 19 games, set by the Green Bay Packers, from 1959 to 1962.
